La Vanguardia, Tuesday, May 22, 2018:

Pujadó-Soler, architecture studio

Functionality, sustainability, technology and creativity

Sergi Pujadó leads the studio that bears his name and has carved an important niche for himself in the sector thanks to his dedication to project management as a quantity surveyor. We talked to him to explain his concept of architecture as a quantity surveyor and as an architect.

What were the beginnings of Sergi Pujadó in the business world?

Our beginnings were focused on technical architecture, on the realization of construction directions. In this area, we have an ever-wider portfolio of clients. To give you an idea, during these last four years, and especially this last one, we have built more than 130 homes as surveyors, which is why it is still one of our most important jobs.

And from construction management he also began to carry out architectural projects…

At the beginning I started accepting orders for single-family houses, changes of use, comprehensive reforms, etc. We are currently expanding our client portfolio and this has been one of the reasons why I have decided to open the studio.

And now that you’ve been on both sides of architecture, what do you like best?

The truth is that my dedication to the construction management that I carry out as a quantity surveyor is very strong. What I like about architecture is that I can focus only on those projects that excite me and where I can really contribute creativity and knowledge.

What is the most complicated thing about combining the two figures?

I do not think it is complicated, paradoxically, the most complex thing is to understand that simplicity must be sought in the way of acting. That is to say, when we act as surveyors we do not enter to assess the decisions of the architect and vice versa, since we consider it essential not to interfere in the tasks of our colleagues.

Apart from Sergi Pujadó, which professionals are part of the team?

The team, made up of architects and surveyors, is complemented by professionals who manage the studio and graphic designers. In turn, we make agreements with other professionals and entities, such as companies that are dedicated to the industrialization of the construction process, since this provides us with greater sustainability, technology and constructive precision.

What projects are you currently involved in?

As architects we are immersed in various projects of single-family houses, changes of use, extension of houses and a collective housing project.

In addition, we continue to carry out facade reforms, ITEs, energy certificates and other types of technical services.

We are aware that our success lies in keeping in mind the four foundations of the study, which are functionality, sustainability, technology and creativity, making the client feel special.

Finally, can you make a prediction of what the homes of the future will be like?

I believe that the houses will be ecological, intelligent and their consumption will be lower. The buildings will be rich in common spaces for meetings, leisure, dynamic and with micro green areas, although for this to materialize an urban contribution will be necessary to provide more buildable space for this type of buildings in order not to lose habitable roof.
